The world’s most expensive instrument is this 250 year old violin. It was played for the first time in 70 years in Moscow, March 21, 2008.

The Guarnerius del Gésu violin was bought at Sotheby’s in February. It was played by Israeli virtuoso Pinchas Zuckerman.

Cost: $3.9 million. Now that’s some sweet music.

The Continuum Caliburn is the most expensive turnable you can buy.  And reputably the finest turntable in the world.  It was the Stereophile 2006 Product of the Year.  The Continuum is made by Australia’s Continuum Audio Labs.

With my music record collection, the hisses and crackles should be as smooth as silk.

Cost: Up to $112,000

Only a limited edition of 100 12-inch vinyl pressings will be made of the artist’s debut song. The record will be released by Victorious Kiam Records. Each will be numbered and signed by the artist. What I think is cool is that the cover art will be designed by 10 of the UK’s most interesting artists (listed at the bottom of the jump).

It is part publicity play, part philosophical statement that music has value, despite the tendency to expect it for free.
