September 29, 2007 By: wmeb Category: Food & Drink No Comments →

Most expensive desser AP photo.

Brought to you by the Fortress Hotel in Sri Lanka, this pudding concoction is probably the world’s most expensive dessert. It’s called “The Fortress Stilt Fisherman”.

What’s in it?

The dessert is a gold leaf Italian cassata flavored with Irish cream, served with a mango and pomegranate compote and a champagne sabayon enlighten. The dessert is decorated with a chocolate carving of a fisherman clinging to a stilt. (a Sri Lankan motif)

….oh yeah, and a gemstone, an 80 carat aquamarine. (that’s gotta hurt going down)

Cost: about $14,500 . Apparently, one has been sold.

Update: The Fortress has been overcome by this most expensive dessert from Serendipity 3 in Manhattan, New York. It contains 28 rare cocoas and, get this, 23 carat edible gold dust, all served up in a gold goblet. Oh yeah, you get to keep the diamond encrusted 18 carat gold spoon.

Most Expensive Baseball Card

honus-wagner.gif Honus Wagner

The Honus Wagner baseball card (T260 above) is the world’s most expensive.  Known as the “Holy Grail” or Mona Lisa of baseball cards, one in mint condition recently broke a record at auction.  It is extremely rare.  Only about 50 or so are said to exist.  The reason for the rarity:  Honus Wagner (1874-1955) objected to the card produced by a tobacco company, either because he was a non-smoker or did not get paid.  He took them to court and won. The company was ordered to destroy the cards.  They apparently got most of them.  The ones that got away will pay you more than Honus got in his entire life.

Cost: $2.8 million

Kopi Luwak or Civit Coffee is the rarest and most expensive coffee on earth but it’s made from dung.  That’s right.  An animal called a luwak (or civit) eats coffee beans which, when released, is gathered to create the legendary brew.

Adds new meaning to the phrase, “Wake up and smell the coffee”

Cost: about $700 a pound

Here’s what the critter looks like:
